Snaps are an excellent closure method. I often use them in jackets where I do not want to have buttons, or beneath buttons if I am using fabric that would be difficult to put a buttonhole into. These snaps are easy to sew on. The under side is plain metal with fairly large holes that I "feel around" for with my needle. I use a double strand of thread, passing through each hole about 3 times. It works best to knot the thread after each pass around the hole by going through the thread loop that forms. I use 4 holes unless I am making a coat, in which case I use more.
